A Day in Honor of Carmellia Watson

State of Nevada, Executive Department- A proclamation by the governor

WHEREAS, Carmellia Watson has honorably served the State of Nevada as an extraordinary public servant, dedicating 32 years of exceptional service to improving the lives of Nevada's citizens; and;

WHEREAS, Carmellia began her remarkable career with the State of Nevada in January 1997 as an Administrative Assistant I, working as a switchboard operator and supporting a division unit with professionalism and care, setting the foundation for a lifetime of service; and;

WHEREAS, through her hard work and determination, Carmellia advanced to Eligibility Certification Specialist I in July 1997 and to Eligibility Certification Specialist II, a position subsequently reclassified as Family Services Specialist II. In this role, she demonstrated unwavering commitment to delivering quality services and essential benefits to Nevadans in need, embodying compassion and commitment; and;

WHEREAS, in July 2004, Carmellia was promoted to Trainer for the division, where she played a pivotal role in fostering the growth and professional development of Welfare staff, inspiring countless colleagues, shaping the future of the division by sharing her extensive knowledge and experience; and;

WHEREAS, in March 2010, Carmellia advanced to Training Officer I and, in April 2023, transitioned to Family Services Supervisor I, a position she held until her retirement. Throughout her tenure, she touched the lives of countless employees, exemplifying understanding of the programs and mission of her division; and;

WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, Carmellia Watson served under Governors Bob Miller, Kenny Guinn, Jim Gibbons, Brian Sandoval, Steve Sisolak, and Joe Lombardo, leaving an indelible mark on the Division of Social Services and the State of Nevada; and;

WHEREAS, Carmellia's legacy is one of service, leadership, and heart; she has touched lives, strengthened communities, and uplifted those around her with grace and generosity; and;

WHEREAS, the Division of Social Services, on behalf of its employees and the citizens of Nevada, extends sincere gratitude to Carmellia Watson for her decades of excellence and service. She will be deeply missed, both professionally and personally, by all who have had the privilege to work with her;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2026, as a day in honor of

CARMELLIA WATSON
