ANTISEMITISM FOR YOM HASHOAH IN NEVADA

April 17–18, 2023 • 12:00 AM - 12:00 AM PT

WHEREAS, Antisemitism, including harassing on the basis of actual or perceived Jewish origin, ancestry, identity, affiliation or faith remains a persistent and disturbing problem in contemporary American society; and;

WHEREAS, Jewish people continue to be a targeted minority in the United States and data shows that Jews are consistently the most likely of all religious groups to be victimized by incidents of hate, and that such incidents are increasing at an alarming rate; and;

WHEREAS, State officials and institutions have a responsibility to protect citizens from acts of hate and bigotry motivated by discriminatory animus, including antisemitism and must be given the tools to do so; and;

WHEREAS, While there can be no exhaustive definition of antisemitism, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance working definition of Antisemitism has been an essential definitional tool used to determine contemporary manifestations of Antisemitism, and includes useful examples of discriminatory anti-Israel acts that can cross the line into antisemitism; and;

WHEREAS, Use of this definition of Antisemitism, although it is not to be taken as an exhaustive definition, will increase awareness and undertaking of the parameters of contemporary anti-Jewish discrimination in certain circumscribed areas; and;

WHEREAS, As the State affirms its strong commitment to fighting Antisemitism moving forward, it is important to acknowledge the history of our past as we observe that April 18, 2023 is Yom HaShoah, the Jewish remembrance day for the 6,000,000 Jews murdered by the Nazis; and;

WHEREAS, The State of Nevada is committed to fighting Antisemitism in all forms and will continue to work with partners at all levels of government to ensure that every Nevadan feels safe, protected and welcome; and;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the day of April 17, 2023 as

ANTISEMITISM FOR YOM HASHOAH IN NEVADA
