A Day in Honor of Elveda Martinez

State of Nevada, Executive Department- A proclamation by the governor

WHEREAS, Elveda Martinez is a distinguished leader whose 40-year career has transformed the Walker River Paiute Nation's civic, social, and educational offerings, the WRPT's natural resources infrastructure, youth programs and public and political engagement; and;

WHEREAS, Elveda served a key role in a water rights settlement that spanned nearly four decades with years of organizing and advocating for the Tribe's long-term water security; and;

WHEREAS, Elveda secured and managed numerous grants, including tamarisk removal, fish and wildlife preservation, drought resilience and infrastructure of the community irrigation systems; and;

WHEREAS, during the world-wide COVID pandemic, Elveda organized a program that provided reservation residents access to traditional and healthy foods that were sourced regionally which reinforced local and small business economies; and;

WHEREAS, in her professional role, Elveda contributed to census efforts, volunteered as a poll worker, chaired the Walker River Paiute Election Committee, and collaborated with Nevada county clerks to ensure Tribal voices were included in civic engagement processes; and;

WHEREAS, Elveda also served as an Emergency Medical Services professional for many years; and;

WHEREAS, Elveda's decades of service reflect her innate, unwavering commitment to the advancement and protection of our water, land, elders, and future generations of Numa; and;

WHEREAS, during her 40 years of dedicated public service, Elveda has exemplified the highest standards of professionalism, significantly impacting Indian Country and inspiring countless individuals; and;

WHEREAS, Elveda has served with integrity, demonstrating exceptional leadership and fostering a spirit of collaboration, leaving a legacy that will be felt for generations to come. We extend our best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim January 17, 2026, as a day in honor of

ELVEDA MARTINEZ
