Filipino American History Month in Nevada

State of Nevada, Executive Department- A proclamation by the governor

WHEREAS, Filipino Americans first arrived on the continent of the United States on October 18, 1587, when “Luzones Indios” set foot in Morro Bay, California, marking the beginning of more than four centuries of Filipino presence and contributions to the American story; and;

WHEREAS, Filipino Americans have played a vital role throughout American history, including service in the U.S. Armed Forces, leadership in the labor movement, and contributions to education, health care, business, arts, and public life; and;

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is proud to be home to a thriving Filipino American community, whose hard work, family values, and cultural traditions enrich the social and economic strength of our state; and;

WHEREAS, October is recognized nationally as Filipino American History Month to honor the enduring legacy, resilience, and achievements of Filipino Americans and to increase awareness of their role in shaping both Nevada’s and our nation’s history; and;

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins the Filipino American community in celebrating the history, heritage and contributions to our State and our nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2025 as

FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH IN NEVADA
