International Holocaust Remembrance Day In Nevada

WHEREAS, on Holocaust Remembrance Day, we recall the six million lives lost during the most tragic genocide in modern history; and;

WHEREAS, today's worldwide Jewish population is still smaller than it was prior to the Holocaust; and;

WHEREAS, data shows that Jewish people around the world continue to be a targeted minority and are consistently the most likely of all religious groups to be victims of incidents of hate. Antisemitism, including harassment on the basis of actual or perceived Jewish origin, ancestry, ethnicity, identify, affiliation or faith, remains a persistent, pervasive and disturbing problem in contemporary American society; and;

WHEREAS, antisemitism is an evil that threatens not only those who subscribe to the Jewish faith but all people, no matter what creed or background; and;

WHEREAS, the history of the Holocaust offers an opportunity to reflect on the moral responsibilities of individual, societies, and governments and the need for respect for all people. We must continue to remain vigilant against hatred, racism, antisemitism, and genocide and actively rededicate ourselves to the principles of individual freedom in a just society; and;

WHEREAS, we remember the millions of other innocent victims the Nazis so brutally targeted and so brutally killed. We remember the survivors who bore than we can imagine. We remember the hatred and evil that to extinguish human life, dignity, and freedom; and;

WHEREAS, we must never let this dark period of history happen again and must further Holocaust education to ensure Nevadans understand the Holocaust and similar atrocities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim January 27, 2026, as

INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY IN NEVADA
