Month of the Military Child in Nevada
WHEREAS, the children of military families face unique challenges, including frequent household moves, school transitions, and parental deployments, yet they handle these transitions with remarkable grace and strength; and;
WHEREAS, the state of Nevada is home to roughly 11,000 youth who are dependents of National Guard, Reservists, and Active-Duty Service Members, each playing a vital role in the strength and endurance of military families; and;
WHEREAS, the average military student may move more than twice during high school, and most will attend six to nine different school systems from kindergarten to twelfth grade; and;
WHEREAS, the Department of Defense and the Nevada Department of Education are committed to ensuring that the children of our brave service members receive the support and high-quality education they deserve; and;
WHEREAS, military-connected children are a source of pride and honor to us all, and it is only fitting that we take time to recognize their contributions and celebrate their spirit; and;
WHEREAS, the Month of the Military Child provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by military children, celebrate their strength, and acknowledge the importance of supporting them as they grow and thrive; and;
WHEREAS, it is essential that we show our appreciation for the resilience, bravery, and dedication of these young heroes, who contribute to the strength of our military community and our state; and;
WHEREAS, all Nevadans are encouraged to wear purple on Wednesday, April 15 to honor all military-connected children and show appreciation and gratitude for our military-connected youth;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2026 as
MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD IN NEVADA
