Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Nevada

WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month provides an opportunity to promote public understanding of sexual violence and to advance education, prevention, and community safety across the State of Nevada; and;

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognize sexual violence as a serious public health issue that occurs when consent is not obtained or freely given; and;

WHEREAS, community-based organizations, service providers, educators, and advocates throughout Nevada work collaboratively to prevent sexual violence, support survivors, and strengthen coordinated responses that promote accountability and safety; and;

WHEREAS, sexual violence affects individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and communities, and its prevention requires shared responsibility, civic engagement, and informed action by all Nevadans; and;

WHEREAS, promoting respectful relationships, consent education, and prevention strategies contributes to safer schools, workplaces, families, and communities; and;

WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month encourages survivors to seek support, highlights the importance of prevention and education, and reaffirms Nevada's commitment to dignity, safety, and well-being for all residents; and;

WHEREAS, 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, honoring a quarter century of survivor leadership, advocacy, and community action to end sexual assault, abuse, and harassment, while reaffirming a collective commitment to prevention, healing, and continued progress toward a future in which all people are safe, valued, and respected;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2026 as

SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
