THE REDEDICATION OF THE WASHINGTON ELM TREE

WHEREAS, the Washington Elm, under which legend holds that George Washington took command of the Continental Army on July 3, 1775, symbolizes the enduring spirit of freedom, leadership, and unity that shaped the founding of our nation; and;

WHEREAS, the original Washington Elm, although no longer standing, continues its legacy through descendants planted across the United States, including the grandchild tree dedicated on the grounds of the Nevada State Capitol in 1932 by the Nevada Sagebrush Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR); and;

WHEREAS, the Nevada State Capitol grounds, which include trees dedicated to every county in the state, serve as a testament to Nevada's rich history, community pride, and commitment to environmental stewardship; and;

WHEREAS, the Washington Elm, located adjacent to the historic Blasdel Building, named for Nevada's first governor, H.G. Blasdel, stands as a living monument to our state's connection to national heritage and the values of freedom and unity; and;

WHEREAS, the year 2025 marks the 250th anniversary of George Washington taking command of the Continental Army and the launch year for America 250 Nevada making this an opportune moment to celebrate and rededicate this historic tree as a symbol of Nevada's physical tie to the Revolutionary War;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim April 25, 2025 as a day in commemoration of
